Information for Undergraduate Students
The Department of Geosciences offers four undergraduate degrees: It is also possible for students to obtain a double major in Geology and Geophysics. Students
should consult the UH catalog for the general requirements for the
Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Arts degrees. We urge you to visit the UH
Office of Admissions where you can get current information on Admission
Requirements, Applications and Scholarships and Financial Aid. You can read the Undergraduate
Catalog online, go directly to the College portion of the catalog, or
take a look at the specific degree requirements for your major. If you have specific questions, please contact
Dr. Shuhab Khan regarding BS (Geology and Geophysics) and BA (Earth Science). Senior undergraduates may undertake and receive credit for a research
project under the supervision of a faculty member. Such a student
must file a general petition specifying: the research content and
the basis for evaluation of the work (report, thesis, presentation,
etc.,). The petition is to be signed by the student, the supervisor
of the project, the undergraduate advisor and/or chair, dean’s
representative. Generally such projects are graded S or U. Exceptions
to this grading should be stated and justified on the petition. Petitions
should be submitted before distribution of semester grade rolls.
Students interested in undertaking an undergraduate research project
are advised to contact a potential faculty supervisor well ahead
of the projected start date for the project. The Geosciences department hosts a large number of Honors students from
the Honors college. For more information about joining the organization,
please visit the Honors College homepage. GeoSociety -
